The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

The Next Big Thing Blog Hop with Valerie Clarizio

I’d like to start by offering a huge “Thank you!” to Stacey Joy Netzel for tagging me for The Next Big Thing.  I’ve been reading Stacey’s novel, Lost in Italy, and can’t seem to put it down.  I can’t wait for her to finish Run to Rome.

The Next Big Thing originated on the She Writes site, as far as we could work out, and is designed to raise awareness of our work, or work in progress. We do that by answering ten questions about it. We graciously thank the person who nominated us, and tag five other authors whose work could well be that NEXT BIG THING.

Stacey had a great post last week and now it’s my turn to answer some questions about my upcoming work in progress.

What is the title of your next book?

The next book (novella) to write is unnamed at this time, but is a Valentine’s Day story and the sequel to Cookies for Santa, my romantic suspense novella which was released by Melange Books on November 5th.

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I had so much fun writing a holiday themed fish out of water story, Cookies for Santa; I decided to try to see what I could do for the hero, Detective Spinelli, with a Valentine’s Day theme.

What genre does your book fall under?

Contemporary romantic suspense.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

The handsome, yet rugged, Anson Mount would be my choice for Detective Spinelli.

The beautiful sweet and innocent Molly Quinn would play Shannon.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

The scorned Detective Spinelli must push his feelings aside and pull it together to catch a killer who appears to be one step ahead of him and too close to the woman he thought loved him.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I will seek representation from the same publisher who released the first book in the series.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I’m still working on it but I’m hoping the first draft will take no more than 6-8 weeks.  Remember, it is only a novella.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

This is a tough question to answer but I would have to say it is kind of like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series except all the silliness follows the hero rather than the heroine, and there’s more romance involved.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

The “high” of getting my first novella published has certainly encouraged me to continue writing, and turn Detective Spinelli’s life into a series.

What else about your book might pique the reader interest?

I’ve been told romance readers, and I myself as a romance junkie, love to read a story involving a fish out of water.  In my current Valentine’s Day WIP, and Cookies for Santa, Spinelli is certainly a fish out of water, and his quest for normalcy takes him on an interesting ride.

Thank you again, Stacey, for tagging me so I could take this opportunity to talk about my new work in progress.

I will now pass you along to some amazing authors so they can tell you about their current work in progress.  Please visit them next week as they will be posting their answers to the same ten questions above on or around December 5th.

Here they are:

  1. You just answered all of the questions I had for you yesterday! 🙂 Thank you! Great answers. I’ll be starting your book this weekend. I want to read something before I start editing. It will be a nice breather.

  3. This sounds wonderful! I love the idea of the “fish out of water”, and it’s even more interesting that the fish is the sexy hero! Valentine’s day is a wonderful followup to Cookies for Santa 🙂
